About & FAQ

Lucy V. Morgan writes sharp contemporary fiction, usually with a liberal splatter of filth. Her novel BREAKING LEILA was nominated for a Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice award in 2013, the same year that TWISTED SUMMER topped the iTunes paid fiction chart for a week.

In her new adult parody, TOUSLE ME, Lucy pays homage to her genre in the best way she knows how: by mocking it mercilessly.

Lucy lives in England, where she also works as an editor. She spends her spare time consuming lebkuchen, working through her TBR pile, and pretending she's an urban fantasy heroine in body combat classes. Her window cleaner comments on her insane typing speed.

I'm looking for Chairman of the Whored/The Whored's Prayer. Where have they gone?!
They're still about! But they're now titled Breaking Leila and Breaking Joseph. I got rid of the "whore" bit for marketing/distribution purposes. Apparently, it's a very dirty word.

What kind of author are you?
I write erotic stories that cover dark ground, but I wouldn't say I write dark erotica (capture fantasies and the like). I write stories with BDSM, but I wouldn't call myself a BDSM author. I write queer characters but I wouldn't call myself a queer author. RT Book Reviews called Breaking Leila "chick lit meets erotica," and that's probably as good a description as any. I like to explore a character's faults before I examine their strengths, and that can make my work a little more challenging in some respects.

I also write humour, and for that, there's Tousle Me. I find myself to be very interested in publishing, trends and tropes, and my snark gland needs emptying every now and then. (I even got to mock my own books in that one).

What are you working on right now?
VIOLETTA, a very dark erotic contemporary; I'm getting there, very slowly. There's another dark book that may or may not be ready before Violetta's Hugo decides to unclench his buttocks (so to speak!). I'm also working on Quest for You, the follow-up to Tousle Me.

Will there be a sequel to Twisted Summer?
I don't have plans for one, currently. All my characters do tend to crop up in other books though, so I imagine Danni and Gabe will feature elsewhere, even if they only have smaller roles.

Will there be any more stories with the characters from Beautiful Mess?
While originally I had planned to write other stories, this is now postponed indefinitely. Again, I suspect the characters will crop up in other people's stories from time to time.

Was Beautiful Mess originally Twilight fan fiction?
No.  As an author, I'm against the practise of repackaging of fan fiction for profit (rather than the writing of it, I should point out). If you see my work tagged as fan fiction, please let me know--I really don't appreciate the association.

Why would you make fun of new adult books in Tousle Me when you've written in that genre?
Because sometimes, it's a relief to laugh at yourself (for me, anyway).

Are you a lawyer in real life, like Leila from the Knives & Flowers series?
No. But I luckily know many to harass for research, and I certainly did a lot of research.

Are you a prostitute in real life, like Leila?
No. I found plenty of ways to research that too, though. Cough!

Are you a wedding cake maker in real life, like Bailey?
Not professionally, but I'm a very keen baker and have knocked up decent celebration cakes. Except the dragon cake. We don't talk about Derek the dragon.

Do you have any pet rats, like Bailey?
I did. They're sadly not with us any more, but here's Bruce, Tarquin and Safety Dance (the real stars of Beautiful Mess):
